The School of Postgraduate Studies and Research (SPGSR) at the University of Burao has steadily evolved since its founding in 2016. It began with two focused programs—Educational Leadership & Management and Social Research—designed to strengthen internal university leadership and enhance research capacity. While these early cohorts produced qualified graduates, they laid the foundation for a broader academic vision to address emerging national and regional needs.
Our mission is to train highly skilled professionals—including educators, healthcare providers, legal experts, IT specialists, and development practitioners—capable of transforming society through innovation, teaching, and ethical leadership. SPGSR equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond effectively to both local development challenges and global trends.
Established with two core objectives—to strengthen postgraduate teaching capacity within the University and to provide accessible, in-country advanced study opportunities—SPGSR reduces dependency on external institutions and directly supports national development goals. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to academic excellence, research advancement, and building the next generation of thought leaders and change-makers for Somaliland and beyond.
